Public Service Announcement

Changes from last 24 hours:

  • Issue with not being able to steal from a stacked object resolved (requires another server reboot, sorry)
  • Improvements to Trading, let us know if the trade acceptance issue proceeds or not
  • Removed the ability to gain skills from scroll spell-casts
  • Removed use-case options from runes
  • UI/Window performance improvements, including reducing the amount of UI/window refreshes, you may notice a slight delay between window updates because of this, and even possibly a performance improvement
  • Warg pets removed, we did not intend to spawn those in at this time and they are forcibly removed
  • Removed Vendor Buy/Sell confirmation window popup

Changes from earlier:

  • Pet AI issues resolved, was causing pets to not attack and maybe other things too
  • Stablemaster minimum-range to check for pets reduced to improve pet summoning
  • Added pet position validation when using 'follow' commands to assist with getting pets un-stuck while we work to improve the root cause
  • Horses set to 0 taming difficulty, does not affect old horses
  • Added some missing interruptions to Mining/Lumberjacking/Fishing to prevent performing other tasks while harvesting
  • Resolved issue with bladed weapon target actions not checking for distance
  • Fixed issue with trying to use food in places where it was inaccessible saying "you feel more refreshed" while also saying "you can't access that"
  • Fixed issue with sometimes getting a backpack from corpses
  • Fixed issue with trying to open corpses failing and not showing a container window
  • Added notification and system message when being murdered to guide players to Reputation window to report the murders if desired
  • Blacksmith/Weaponsmith/Armorsmith NPCs will now carry more items for sale with differing stock selections from each other.

Power hour will no longer expire after 60 real-time minutes from activation, instead will expire after 60 minutes of in-game playtime, with the same 22-hour cooldown from the time you started it last

This means if you log out before using all of your Power Hour then you can log back in and use what's remaining before the 22 hours is up, after which Power Hour will be reset and you will be able to activate it again

The server is up again! Sorry again for the inconvenience but we really appreciate your patience. :)

The server is back online and the shutdown of Celador has been completed. As previously mentioned, any characters, items, and houses that were left behind are no longer accessible.

If you have any characters remaining in Inbetween from the transition and have trouble progressing through the black portal, please send a help request and make sure your contact info (use /contactinfo command) is up to date so we can contact you back if no one is available to help immediately.

Thanks for your continued patience and support through the transition.

All wandering healers have had their wanderlust reduced temporarily, until we can make them visible via map icons once again. The markers available via https://lou-map.herokuapp.com/ can be used to locate them.

After next restart, Karma should be functioning properly.

The rules page has been moved from the old wiki to the LOU website at https://legendsofultima.online/about/rules

Some changes were made so please make sure you read the page and familiarize yourself with the rules, as they go into effect immediately.

Thanks for your understanding and for playing fair.

We are back online. Have fun, go play!

Hi all,

Please click through to the link below to read this announcement in full.

We wanted to take a few minutes to write a bit of a 'state of the game' update. Firstly, thank you all so much for jumping on board with us. Seeing Britain Bank full of people, the streets of Minoc busy and ore flowing out of Minoc mines (when it doesn't get interrupted by a red-named individual!) and folks spelunking in our dungeons has been an amazing experience. We couldn't have done all this without you, so thank you!

Now for what the development team is up to right now:

  1. Our #1 priority is performance and stability - they really go hand in hand, and that is what we are prioritising right now. While you may not necessarily see it as a player, we are still tackling some back end performance challenges which simply must be addressed before we can move onto anything else.

  2. Critical bug fixes - I'm sure those of you that have sat through the multiple restarts with us already would be aware that we are beating down critical bugs left, right and centre. We know this is disruptive to your play time, and we thank you for your patience. It won't last forever, and we are making good headway here.

One of the most challenging bugs to date has been the trade window bug. Note that we are still working on the root cause for that one, and will advise just as soon as we're able to fix it.

  1. Anything else - this includes any low priority bugs (not game breaking), adding content, tweaking balance, filling out the world, and everything else on our (quite frankly huge) to do list. All of this is prioritised lower until we get #1 sorted, and to a lesser degree, #2.

With all of that in mind, we are going to be a little more disruptive over the next day or two with additional restarts, as we work on #1. In most cases, we have to do this to enable other methods of logging and debugging, in an attempt to get to root causes of various issues. You may also see 'lag spikes' on occasion as we get the info we need. You may also wonder why we even need to do this, as the game is performing great for you all! We'll ask you to bear with us on all of that, and trust that it is necessary.

You're also going to see bugfixes potentially introduce new, unintended bugs on occasion. Sorry about that! Know that we are working on all of this as quickly as we can.

In addition, you will still see oddities like mobs in the water or up on mountains. You might end up in black space (send in a /page!) or encounter other 'cosmetic' issues that are annoying. We do know about most of these and will work to fix them, however as mentioned earlier, if it's not 'game breaking', it's taking a lower priority for now.

I'm sure we'll get 3 or 4 weeks down the track and look back at this phase and laugh. What I can share with you though is we are well prepared to deal with the issues that you only encounter once you actually 'go live' and we will work through them all.

We could have also delayed the launch to address some of these items, but we wanted to stick to our guns this time. I am hoping most of you agree that the game is generally in a decently playable state, and are having fun out there!

Sorry for the (slightly) bumpy road in the meantime. We look forward to continuing this journey with all of you!

  • Missing when attacking in combat is now fixed
  • Not being able to split stacks is now fixed

Please log out and back in to the game to enable these fixes.

  • Fixed issue with Security options not being added to containers being secured by anyone but the house owner
  • Fixed issue with double-clicking house sign not refreshing the house in some cases
  • Optimized spammy system message "the house has been refreshed"

Dungeon Despise is now available for again for your spelunking pleasure.

Sounds from applying bandages as well as sounds from instruments will now only play to yourself while inside of town.

-Short term murder counts should no longer reset upon death in the colosseum

-Looting any corpse but your own is disabled in the Colosseum

Over the last week or two, we've had a few of our players report rubber banding issues when connected to the game. Based on our investigations to date, this seems to be some sort of transient issue that is likely a poorly performing peer/segment somewhere on the internet.

Unfortunately it has yet to affect any staff, so it is difficult to troubleshoot further. However, here are some suggestions we have for those that are affected:

  • Try using a VPN. Other users have reported good results using the free Avast VPN trial. We do not endorse any particular product in this regard.
  • Try tethering to your phone ("hotspotting")
  • Ensure you are not using any third party tools that interact with the client

A VPN or mobile hotspot will generally result in your connection using a different 'route' to the server. Think of it as taking an empty back road instead of a busy highway to get to your destination.

Unfortunately there isn't much else we can suggest at this time, and it seems the issue is largely out of our control. We'll continue to monitor it however, and offer any further insight as it comes.

During the usual 9am UTC/5am US EST maintenance window, we will remain offline for up to 2 hours while we do additional maintenance work. We apologise for this, however it is the first in a series of steps to minimise downtime, crashing and restarts, and we feel it's important enough to do this on the weekend while we have multiple staff members available to support that activity.

If all goes well, we will complete the work in a much shorter timeframe than 2 hours. Keep an eye on #news for notification on how we are travelling.

Thank you, as always, for your patience.
