💎 Mastery Chain is live!
Alongside Halloween, a brand-new long-term progression system arrives today: the Mastery Chain.
What is it?
A Gem Mastery Necklace you wear or carry while you play. Fight monsters and you earn Mastery experience, unlocking up to 30 gem slots. Fill them with Mastery Gems for lasting, stacking bonuses to combat, spellcasting, gathering, barding and more.
- Earned by playing – progress comes from killing monsters. No special dailies, no separate grind.
- Account-wide – every character on your account shares the same Mastery level and experience.
- Yours to keep – a socketed gem stays on your necklace until you remove it, and its bonus applies while you wear or carry your active necklace.
- Build your way – dozens of bonus types, so you can shape it around how you like to play.
- PvE only – Mastery bonuses switch off in PvP combat, so open-world player fights are unaffected.
Getting started
- Reach 100 Tinkering and craft a Gem Mastery Necklace (found under the Gem Mastery category).
- Fight monsters to earn Mastery experience and unlock gem slots. You don't even need the necklace on you to earn it.
- Find Mastery Gems as monster loot – tougher monsters drop better gems. No vendor sells them.
- Socket gems into your necklace (gold and Shard Essence), then activate the necklace from its menu.
Mastery meets Halloween
Named Halloween bosses can drop Mastery Gems on top of their usual loot, and three Halloween quests (the Trick-or-Treat Trail, the Headless Search and the Ghost Tour diary) each grant a one-time chunk of Mastery experience. Halloween candy can never be spent on Mastery progress.
